Our Chief Executive Officer, Pierce Dargan, really enjoyed exhibiting at the Treo Eile Pro/Celebrity Thoroughbred Showjumping Classic last night.
Established as a not-for-profit in 2020, the Treo Eile project aims to increase the retraining of ex-racehorses, once their racetrack careers are concluded. Our goals are threefold:
CONNECT > racehorse owners with retrainers/new owners
SUPPORT > ex-racehorses with a prize-based thoroughbred event program
PROMOTE > the versatility of the ex-racehorse and their sucessful stories
Our website gives information for the ex-racehorse and potential new owners about what to expect, where to find help and how to care for their former racehorses. From 2022, we will be running clinics and educational seminars.
In future, available horses may be posted in our listings section which aims to match horses to homes, but for now owners may contact retrainers through the directory. Downloadable Resources such as loan/sale contracts are available to assist with the transfer of ownership and will guide each party through the transaction.
Prize money incentives aimed at ‘ex-racehorses’ have been established across various competitions/leagues and finals throughout Ireland in order to encourage thoroughbred participation. Awareness of our organisation occurs in the main via our social media, on racecourses and our annual Christmas Pro-Celebrity Show Jumping Challenge.
We are funded directly by the racing industry via contributions from stud farms, breeders and stallion owners. We also fund raise throughout the year. Other partners include Racing Post and the Irish Field who support us with images and editorial space. To them all we offer our thanks and look forward to welcoming others on board as we increase our work in this vital area.
