Trinity College Dublin (TCD) Horse Racing Society has announced that it has signed a sponsorship agreement with Alwasmiyah Stud, which will see the well known thoroughbred and Arabian racing operation be the societies main sponsor for the upcoming year! This new partnership between TCD Horse Racing Society and Alwasmiyah Stud will see both organisations looking to promote their collective interest in the sport of horse racing to Ireland’s next generation at its premier university.

Despite Covid-19 impacting student life immeasurably, this sponsorship comes as a welcome relief and source of encouragement for the year ahead. Alwasmiyah Stud has begun investing in Irish horse racing over the past year, with its recent announcement of a three year sponsorship of the group one Alwasmiyah Pretty Polly Stakes, which is held on Irish Derby weekend at the Curragh Racecourse. This new sponsorship of the TCD Horse Racing Society shows Alwasmiyah’s further commitment to the development of the Irish Racing Industry for future generations.

Alwasmiyah Stud is owned by Hamad Bin Ali Al Attiya and is managed by his sons Ali and Mohammed as well as Director Olven Esmaeel. It is one of the leading owners and breeders based in Qatar with various racing interests in England, France and Ireland. Currently, several of their mares reside at Kiltinan Castle Stud in County Tipperary, while some of its racehorses are in training with Joseph O’Brien.

Ali and Mohammed Al Attiya, commented “We are extremely proud of sponsoring the Trinity College Dublin Horse Racing Society. As young owners and breeders we believe that the society represents a great opportunity for students and other young fans of the sport to become more involved with horse racing and to hopefully in the future become an important part of the sport”.

Robert Dargan, Chairman of TCD Horse Racing Society has stated his excitement over the upcoming year. Dargan said: “We are very pleased to have received the support of such a well known international racing operation in Alwasmiyah Stud. We look forward to working with them to help promote the sport of horse racing to students in Trinity and Ireland’s next generation of horse owners and breeders. This will help ensure Ireland remains as a global leader in the sport of horse racing”.
