My Happy Horses: Part 13
This week we are back at Green Ridge Stables with one of James Owen’s first runners of 2020, Farhaa [pictured ridden by Frankie Flinton]. She is travelling to Belgium with stablemate Al Azeeza to run in the Emirates Breeders Programme 1 race at Mons Ghlin over 2100m on Friday 26th June. Both horses are home-breds for ARO patron, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Farhaa was Owen’s first overseas winner when she won at the same track over 1500m in April 2019, whilst later in the year Al Azeeza gave Owen his first Dubai International Arabian Races victory. Both horses have won over a mile in the UK, with both Farhaa’s wins coming on All Weather surfaces. Farhaa was last seen finishing fourth in the President of the UAE Cup (UK Arabian Derby) (GR1PA) at Doncaster to Hayyan – who recently made a winning return to action in France in a Group 2PA at Toulouse.
Owen reports:”We enjoyed going abroad last year, it just gives us a few more options. Mons is a nice All Weather track, it’s easy to get to, it doesn’t take long. The older horses have come to hand very quickly since we brought them back into work after giving them a break at the start of Covid19 and both Farhaa and Al Azeeza should be suited by the 2100m trip this year.”
Farhaa is a full-sister to UK Derby second Najlaa, who was trained by Damien de Watrigant in France. She is a half sister to Munbaher (Madjani) and Rafeef (No Risk Al Maury, who were both winners trained by Owen and to Taqdeerat (Mahabb) who won for Phil Collington, all in the colours of HH Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
Their dam, Maiziane (by Al Sakbe) is an unraced half-sister to Radames (Kerbella), winner of the Jebel Ali Za’abeel International Stakes (Gr1PA) in 2016. She is also a half-sister to Malhaika (by Mahabb) who sold for €95,000 – the highest priced broodmare at the 2019 Arqana Purebred Arabian sale.
