For Immediate Release

Arcadia, California – With the 40th running of the Breeders Cup World Championships rapidly approaching November 3th & 4th at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, Breeders Cup Limited will once again partner with Ireland-based Equine MediRecord (EMR) to implement their equine welfare compliance software platform for use in the leadup to the global affair.

Equine MediRecord will provide its equine welfare platform for the 40th Breeders Cup World Championships in Santa Anita Park

Breeders’ Cup Limited has long been a leader in creating best-in-class safety protocols to ensure the welfare and safety of its human and equine athletes. Working in conjunction with the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA), the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB), and 1/ST Racing to ensure compliance with all national, state, and track rules and regulations in addition to the best-in-class safety and integrity measures associated with the Breeders’ Cup, EMR’s innovative software platform will allow for the full veterinary history of each contender to be recorded securely to enhance equine welfare and anti-doping procedures.

EMR first provided their system to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Keeneland in Kentucky in 2020. 2023 marks the first year the World Championships will run under HISA’s full jurisdiction, including the Anti-Doping and Medication Control (ADMC) program, which took effect in May of this year. As such, EMR has developed a new system to comply with HISA’s new uniform, national rules pertaining to equine welfare and the anti-doping and medication protocols administered by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit (HIWU) as the ADMC Program’s independent enforcement agency.

The new system developed for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita will automatically inform trainers from across the world of all relevant safety and integrity regulations, including those that have been introduced by HISA, and will inform trainers which documents need to be submitted through the system to allow horses to run in the upcoming World Championships.

“Equine MediRecord has been an indispensable partner as Breeders’ Cup convenes the best runners from around the world – and therefore from a variety of regulatory jurisdictions – on one global stage,” said Breeders’ Cup Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Officer Dora Delgado. “Facilitating compliance with safety and integrity protocols is of paramount importance to protecting the welfare of both equine and human athletes, and we appreciate EMR’s commitment to doing so.”

Breeders Cup Limited joins an impressive list of EMR clients including 1 S/T Racing, the British Horseracing Authority, the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia, and the Arabian Racing Organization. In 2022, EMR received a multi-million dollar investment from Merit Holdings which owns Business Infusions, the largest equine veterinary software group in the world. EMR has now also joined the Business Infusions group.

EMR is endorsed by a number of key individuals in the United States, including Scott Chaney, Executive Director of the CHRB, 1 S/T Racing Chief Veterinarian Dr. Dionne Benson, and Dr. William Farmer, Co-Leader of the Breeders’ Cup Veterinary Team.

Equine MediRecord CEO, Pierce Dargan said: “It is a privilege to work with the Breeders’ Cup again and for the first time under HISA rules and regulations. Given these new HISA rules, we made a number of changes to ensure our software was in compliance. We believe our Equine MediRecord system has a role to play in the movement to help ensure that our children will be able to enjoy horse racing the way we have for generations. To be a part of that work is an honor and highly rewarding.”
